San Francisco is in Trouble

Help me save it

Why I’m running for District 1 Supervisor:

I’ve lived in District 1 since 2006, It’s a vibrant community full of families, amazing restaurants, and bars. Its location next to the park and the presidio makes it a unique environment compared to the rest of the city. Since Sandra Fewer became supervisor District 1 has been deteriorating. This was accelerated by Connie Chan. I plan on bringing back common sense to the board of supervisors by focusing on the following.

Public Safety, we can not fix our problems until people feel safe on the streets, in their homes, and on the buses. We need to fully fund our police department and do all we can to keep the officers we have. I will work hand in hand with the Cpt. Canning and the Chief of Police to bring back officers and find new ones. I will work to remove the members of the police commission who care more about criminals than everyday citizens. I’ll oppose any new commissioners that are not pro-police and public safety.

However, this can not be done overnight, in the meantime I’ll expand the use of community ambassadors during the day and evenings to have more eyes on the community.

Shoplifting is a major issue in District One and is not the victimless crime Connie Chan thinks it is. I will work with Cpt Canning to set up sting operations. Where shoplifters are apprehended as soon they leave the store, are processed, and charged with the items immediately returned. On a state level I’ll work with state legislators to get Prop 47 overturned.

City wide we need to shut down the open air drug markets, arrest and hold the drug dealers for trial. When drug addicts commit crimes while high, they should be given the choice of in person treatment, jail or a bus ticket back to where they came from.

This leads to my next pillar the Addiction Crisis in San Francisco.

I’ve worked with faith-based homeless outreach programs since I was in high school. Most of the people I interacted were homeless because of drug addiction.

Nearly 3000 have overdosed since 2020. The current approach of enablement and no accountability is not working and killing so many caught up in an addiction cycle. When addicts break the law, they need to face consequences which they currently do not. We need mandatory treatment options and to revive the bus ticket program. When Gavin Newsom was mayor he instituted a care not cash program. This created a serious dent in the homeless population.

Enforce the Public camping ban, while many of our leaders will throw up their hands and say they can’t do anything until the Court makes a ruling. I call BS, San Francisco has a long history of ignoring laws they don’t like. I will make sure all public encampments are cleared out of District 1. How?

  1. A homeless outreach team is dispatched as soon as an encampment is reported.

  2. The HOT team makes contact to offer shelter. If shelter is refused then the police outreach team is dispatched. If the shelter is refused again, a misdemeanor citation is issued and a sidewalk cleaning is scheduled ASAP forcing the encampment to move.

  3. If they try to establish an encampment, another cleaning is scheduled and hostile architecture will temporarily make camping difficult.

Next up Small Business and Jobs

Small businesses are a cultural and economic backbone for San Francisco, they help form the character of our neighborhoods. The disastrous shutdown and crime wave following defunding the police has severely crippled small businesses. I will advocate for reducing and eliminating unnecessary permits. I will advocate waiving fees so businesses can get back on their feet. I will advocate for reducing burdensome regulations while protecting the health of the public.

Additionally, we need to attract large employers the shutdown lost us 150,000 officers workers. Some due to work from home policies some due to companies leaving San Francisco due to fees and regulations. I will bring back the previous Tax incentives for businesses who return to in-person work. San Francisco used to be known as the innovation hub of the US. It’s time to reclaim that title.

Public Transportation

Public Transportation is in serious financial trouble. Ridership is down significantly this is due to the lack of in-person work and public safety. No one wants to ride a bus where they might get mugged or have to sit next to someone smoking Fentyal. NYC faced similar issues and they solved them by aggressively enforcing fares are paid. I’ll coordinate with Bart Police and local police to catch people's fare hopping tickets and process them. As well as look into affordable solutions to make fare skipping much more difficult.

Public Education

I worked with many others to recall the members of the school board who don’t care about quality education. Merit-based quality education matters! We need to bring back advanced courses and early algebra. As well as academic support for students who need more help. Our students should also be allowed to receive vocational training. College isn’t for everyone and we need a school system that understands that.

Lastly, there is some serious mismanagement at the district levels, teachers not getting paid on time, funding not making to classrooms but getting tied up in bureaucratic bloat.

I don’t want the Great Highway turned into a park. It’s a road. Let it be a road, and serve the community by relieving street traffic.

By the same token, open back up the roads in GGP. And remove DogMan and Wabbit Woman, and restore Serra, Key, and Grant.
